B.C. Corrections helps keep British Columbians safe by managing adults who are in custody or under community supervision.

BC Corrections Response to COVID-19

BC Corrections is committed to the health and safety of inmates and the staff at our facilities. We continue to consult with the Provincial Health Officer and other health experts about measures that will assist us in securing the facility during the current health crisis.

In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to and within provincial facilities, visits from the public will be restricted at this time.

  • For the safety of everyone within this facility, in-person personal visits will be suspended unless there are exceptional circumstances
  • Confidential in-person meetings with official visitors (such as legal counsel) will be accommodated as much as possible without permitting direct personal contact
  • All visitors are required to submit to the same safe hygiene measures and self screening protocols as staff, and will be refused entry if they do not comply
  • Visitors will not be allowed access to the Centre if they are experiencing or exhibiting any signs of illness

B.C. Corrections provides secure custody for accused awaiting trial as well as for offenders serving sentences of less than two years.

B.C. Corrections operates probation offices that supervise offenders serving community sentences, such as bail or probation orders. It helps offenders in custody and the community learn better ways of responding to the world around them and to reduce reoffending.

In addition, B.C. Corrections:

  • Addresses behaviours offenders need to change
  • Helps offenders gain school and work skills while in custody
  • Assists offenders to plan their return to the community
  • Ensures offenders in the community are following their court-ordered conditions

It provides offenders with programs and services such as:

  • Substance abuse management
  • Violence prevention
  • Relationship violence prevention
  • Essential life skills
  • Sex offender treatment
